TEMS : Central terminal estate management system

TEMS

Being a Fintech business and deploying remote EFT- POS and Payment terminals can be quite challenging to manage in a remote distributed merchant environment, and it can become very expensive when a company regularly lose EPOS assets in the field. Furthermore, POS Service Providers must deploy on-site technical resources to maintain remote terminals at an extremely high cost that results in time delays to rectify broken terminals, and merchant down time.

Interfaces and Configurations

As an EFT-POS Service Provider and management organisation, Posetron had the requirement for an integrated, central intelligent and easy to use Central Back-Office and Dashboard Management system. Thus, TEMS was designed and built by the Posetron engineers over years of learning from daily challenges to more effectively managed EFT-POS terminal estates. The objective for the central TEMS system is to manage the entire POS estate and at the same time eliminate the following challenges:

About TEMS

TEMS translates to (Terminal Estate Management System); it is a cost-efficient way to manage and monitor terminals in the field in a quick response manner from an automated Central System. TEMS makes it possible to safely connect to remote production terminals in the field and obtain diagnostic and analytical data from the POS hardware, applications, and software.

TEMS Offering

TEMS provide unparalleled troubleshooting capabilities via integration to multiple POS brands linked to different OEM proprietary TMS (Terminal Management Systems), therefore all the functions of the OEM-TMS are simplified and broadcast in the quick to read Dashboard of TEMS. This system significantly lowers maintenance and support costs by eliminating unnecessary on-site field work, or expensive terminal swop-outs. Furthermore, TEMS assist to manage all remote scheduled software updates and outcome reporting. This functionality will minimize downtime effectively and maximize operational and trading time of the terminal estate.

TEMS

In general, management of terminal estates need reports of important conditions at any given moment. For example, querying all available stock, a specific category of stock, or occasionally individual items, such as terminals, power supply units, cradles, or SIM cards, all with unique IDs, Supplier/MNO brands and warranty durations, firmware, and software versions, as well as status and event histories. Along with terminal and payment application performance statistics, you may check "Event History" or create reports relating to any information needed in real time.  Remote access to deployed terminals in the field that show software issues or failures is made possible by TEMS capabilities, preventing unnecessarily long downtime which results in merchant revenue loss and SLA penalties. Additionally, it enables staff that is responsible for support and helpdesk to connect to such terminals via the appropriate terminal TMS and addresses a variety of problems provided by the TEMS multiple easy to use modules.

Remote Key Injection

Real time with an “online PIN”. Before this requirement, PIN verification and authentication use to take place between the EFTPOS device and the payment card, which is known as “offline PIN” verification.

Today, most countries require “online PIN” verification and thus payment terminals have to be injected with special secure keys to enable them to encrypt certain card data such as the PIN to create an Enciphered PIN Block. Injecting these secure cryptographic keys without RKI means this process has to take place in a physical Key Injection Facility (KIF) or Trusted Centre.  This is a secure environment subject to certain PCI regulations and certifications and has to be evaluated and audited per annum.

Remote Key Injection (RKI) allows for secure, quick and automatic payment EFTPOS device cryptographic key injection. This “online” solution offers a cost effective, faster and highly secure alternative to the traditional manual secure local “KIF” room key injection process. RKI has become a requirement especially for P2PE encrypted transactions that is a requirement today by the majority of Card Associations and regulatory organisation.

RKI makes it possible to ship new payment terminals directly from the OEM hardware manufacturer or distributor to the merchant without any encryption keys.
